The Jerusalem Talmud (Hebrew: תַּלְמוּד יְרוּשַׁלְמִי‬, Talmud Yerushalmi), often abbreviated as Yerushalmi, is also referred to as the Palestinian Talmud or Talmuda de-Eretz Yisrael (Talmud of the Land of Israel). It comprises rabbinic annotations on the second-century Jewish oral tradition known as the Mishnah. Some scholars argue that the designation "Land of Israel" is more accurate than "Jerusalem," since the work was primarily composed in the Galilee rather than Jerusalem itself, where, during this period, Jewish presence was minimal. The Talmud was compiled in the Land of Israel, which at the time was divided between the Byzantine provinces of Palaestina Prima and Palaestina Secunda, and its compilation concluded around the year 400 CE. Notably, the Jerusalem Talmud predates the Babylonian Talmud (Talmud Bavli) by approximately two centuries. It is written in both Hebrew and Jewish Palestinian Aramaic.
